Sustainable Jobs, Sustainable Local Economies

Conversation with Michael Peck and Kristen Barker

John and Peter talk with Michael and Kristen about how co-operatives are emerging as powerful forces of change and the role citizen-workers have in bringing new opportunities and family-sustaining jobs to local neighborhoods.

Michael is a co-founder of 1worker1vote.org (2014) and has served as Mondragon Corporation‘s North America delegate since 1999. 1worker1vote is a nationwide economic development catalyst mobilizing the union-coop hybrid model reflecting Mondragon values of single class equity and workplace solidarity democratically practiced in profitable enterprises to overcome structural inequalities. Kristen is a co-founder of 1worker1vote and the president and co-founder of the Cincinnati Union Co-op Initiative (CUCI). At CUCI she is using a model passed on from the Mondragon Corporation to help Cincinnati be a leader in the worker-owned co-operative movement.
